Our mission

We are dedicated to helping individuals and families maintain and achieve financial stability and improve their quality of life. We accomplish this and enhance the community by providing education, counseling, advocacy, and financial management programs.

Our History

Established in 1912, we are one of the oldest community-based programs in the State of Wisconsin. Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS), a division of Family Service Association of Sheboygan, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, full-service credit counseling agency, providing confidential financial assessments, financial education, budget, housing, bankruptcy, and debt counseling to consumers throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. Our counselors complete training and pass tests related to personal finance, credit, bankruptcy, and housing. Each counselor earns certification from the National Foundation for Credit Counseling® (NFCC®) prior to meeting with any clients.

Accreditation and Certification

We are affiliated with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) and accredited through the Council of Accreditation. We are licensed, bonded and regulated by the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions and the Minnesota Department of Commerce. We are also a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved counseling agency and approved by the Executive Office of the United States Trustees to provide bankruptcy counseling and education programs. CCCS is also a United Way Agency. To ensure a consistent quality experience, our NFCC Certified Consumer Credit Counselors are required to take ongoing classes in continuing education and training. It’s a lot of work and the standards are high, but it’s the only way to make sure we can provide the best possible service and financial solutions to people like you — who deserve to be treated with honesty, integrity and respect. In addition, our counseling staff possesses certifications in housing counseling, student loan counseling, foreclosure prevention, and loss mitigation.
